Blonde bombshell Carey Mulligan mingles with Hollywood heavyweights at Oscars lunch
In a little over a fortnight, the cream of Tinsletown will gather for the biggest event in the film industry's calendar – the 2010 Academy Awards.
Ahead of the prestigious ceremony, this year's elite including Sandra Bullock, Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep gathered in Los Angeles on Monday for the annual nominees' luncheon.
Colin Firth and Carey Mulligan were there flying the flag for Britain, and, for the talented 24-year-old, rubbing shoulders with Hollywood's leading figures was a dream come true.
Speaking of her fellow nominees, including Meryl and Helen Mirren, the young actress said: "They've all been so unbelievably kind and not intimidating."
"You have then on such a pedestal and you think they could be a nightmare if they wanted to because they're so good. And they're just lovely."
Surrounded by so many big names, Carey – who revealed she watched the nominations alone on CNN – found a novel way to stand out from the crowd.
The London star, up for her role in An Education, had switched her hair colour from dark brunette to a vibrant blonde colour – a change the actress described as "a work in progress".
Front runner for the best actress gong, Sandra Bullock, who is nominated for The Blind Side, was also among the big names at the bash.
And despite talk she will walk away with this year's prize, the humble beauty insisted she didn't take her nod for granted.
"Does anyone expect a nomination?" said the box office favourite. "I certainly didn't."
As well as their mutual election at this year's Oscars, Sandra, Carey and Precious hopeful Gabourey Sidibe revealed something else in common at the event – none have yet decided what to wear down the red carpet.
Those attending the star-studded luncheon – Up In The Air's George Clooney, Invictus' Morgan Freeman and Maggie Gyllenhaal – dined on a poached pear gorgonzola salad, followed by marinated chicken breast, and apple tarts.
