Black Swan star Natalie Portman showed once again why she's this season's poster girl for pregnancy.

In a teal silk Lanvin creation, accessorised with a Dior clutch and daring skyscraper heels, the expectant actress positively glowed at a lunch for the Oscars contenders.

The mum-to-be is vying for best actress for her portrayal of a ballerina, who starts to unravel pyschologically in her quest for perfection.

She was joined by The King's Speech actors Colin Firth, Helena Bonham Carter and Geoffrey Rush.

Best actor nominee Colin stars as the current Queen's father, King George VI, and joked that he sometimes gets royal treatment since the film came out.

“I do get the odd bow, which I put down to either confusion or facetiousness,” he quipped.

Javier Bardem, who has just welcomed a baby with wife Penelope Cruz, is also hoping to scoop the top Oscar for his work in Biutiful.

His fellow nominee Jesse Eisenberg jokingly likened the Academy Awards season to the endless bar mitzvahs he had to attend when he was 13.

"I had to go to bar mitzvahs every weekend, and this is like the same feeling," said Jesse wryly. "Putting on a suit every weekend to go meet with a lot of Jews."

Meanwhile, 14-year-old True Grit actress Hailee Steinfeld looked thrilled to be in the running for an awards show she normally watches on the box "mainly just to see what everyone's wearing".

Looking quite the young lady in Moschino Cheap and Chic, the teenager, who is being considered for best supporting actress, was escorted by her fatherly co-star Jeff Bridges.

Also on hand was Blue Valentine star Michelle Williams, wearing an elegant Chanel ensemble, and newcomer Jennifer Lawrence, who opted for a demure Chloe dress. The blonde beauties will take on Natalie for the best actress trophy.

Amy Adams, nominated for her work in The Fighter, upped the glam factor in a white Valentino dress with a ruffled bodice, and described the Oscar experience as "pretty amazing".

Her co-star Melissa Leo had picked out a white tailored trouser suit.

Another of Natalie's rivals Rabbit Hole star Nicole Kidman joked that her two-year-old daughter has strong fashion opinions that will be taken into consideration.

"She has a very strong voice in terms of what I will be wearing on the night of the Oscars," explained the screen goddess. "Fingers crossed, guys. I could be wearing a tutu".
