Metallic gowns dominated at this year's Academy Awards.

Stars like Michelle Williams, Halle Berry and Gwyneth Paltrow made it a sterling affair in shimmering ethereal nude creations.

Elsewhere on the red carpet, the mood was for high impact, with classic gowns in bold colours, as exemplified by scarlet ladies Sandra Bullock and Jennifer Lawrence. 

And whether they eschewed the fairytale ruffles and frills of previous years in favour of more simple designs or brought sparkle to the ceremony, Hollywood's most glamorous actresses lived up to all the expectations.
