It has been announced that Uggie the dog will not be attending the Oscars ceremony on February 26.

The canine star of The Artist has been present on the red carpets of some of the major Hollywood awards ceremonies.

But a spokesperson for the Weinstein Company said Uggie "has not been asked to participate or appear at the Oscars".

The Jack Russell has been wowing stars and fans with his red carpet tricks and performances, and even picked up an award for his performance in the silent film. 

The news follows the announcement that the performing pooch has retired after his starring role alongside Jean Dujardin.
