In pictures: Our ten favourite moments

The Oscars ditched its reputation as the most grown up of the awards galas with a lively night full of high-spirited good fun.

It wasn't just Sacha Baron Cohen and his urn of ashes or the Bridesmaids playing their Scorsese drinking game.

Christopher Plummer's monologue with his statuette and an unexpected appearance by Uggie, The Artist's canine star, also tickled funnybones.

These mingled with vintage moments, such as Meryl Streep on cloud nine, made for a truly magical evening.
