Oscars 2013: All that glitters: Oscar's leading ladies shimmer and shine
Sporting a shimmering silver Armani Prive gown that showed off her physique to perfection, Best Actress nominee Naomi Watts was dazzling as she stepped out at the Oscars on Sunday night.
Accompanied by her other half Liev Schreiber, the Impossible star revealed that the Italian fashion house had started working on her dress six weeks ago, and that she had been heavily involved in the preparation.
The dress got her husband's seal of approval, with Naomi saying that he is "honest, he's really honest." Liev admitted he hadn't much say in the design process. "I'm not sure that my input had anything to do with the choice," he laughed.
Another leading lady shining on the red carpet in an embellished number was singer Adele, who was flying the flag for British fashion in a stunning Jenny Packham, long-sleeved number. But the songstress, who was to perform during the ceremony, expressed concern about the weight of the dress.
"It weighs 15 kilos!" she laughed. "I'm going to have to take lots of deep breaths!"
Speaking about fashion and her red carpet outfits, Adele said that she prefers not to be influenced by trends and other people's opinions. "I like to wear what I like to wear rather than what other people say I should wear," she said, adding: "And classic. I just try to dress for what works with my figure."
Catherine Zeta-Jones was also lighting up the red carpet in a shimmering ensemble, showing off her flawless figure in a gold Zuhair Murad gown featuring art deco swirls.
Another trend HELLO! Online spotted on the red carpet was ruffles. Amy Adams was breathtaking in a beautiful dove grey Oscar de la Renta dress that the fashion house began creating around two weeks ago and had to rush to finish.
Giving Amy a run for her money was Ben Affleck's wife Jennifer Garner, who put in a stunning appearance in a violet Gucci gown. "They made it for me," she said. "They gave me other ones to choose from but I loved this from the minute I saw the first sketch."
The bodice was another trend that swept the red carpet at the glittering event. Jennifer Lawrence lead the way in a gorgeous Dior Haute Couture ivory gown with a full skirt.
The 22-year-old, who is the face of Dior, was beautiful in the bridal-esque creation, despite being very hungry. "I'm starving! Is there food here?" she said. "Today has been so stressful and I had no time to eat!"
She had clearly learnt her lesson after last year's Oscars, where she ate a Philly cheese steak to calm her nerves and ended up having to "double my Spanx!"
Also opting for the tight-fitting look was Reese Witherspoon, who was showing off her post-pregnancy physique in cobalt blue floor-length Louis Vuitton that she chose with the help of her 13-year-old daughter, Ava. "My daughter and I picked it out," she said. "She makes sure she likes everything and she picks the jewellery and the make-up."
Jessica Chastain, meanwhile, was channelling old Hollywood glamour in Armani Privé.
"I chose it because I'm such a fan of movies and when I saw this, I thought it was a very 'Happy Birthday Mr President' kind of dress."
She also revealed that she had spent a considerable amount of time making the all-important dress decision. "I saw a lot of dresses," she said. "It was a very tough decision."
The gorgeous blush haute couture number was a perfect colour choice for the gorgeous actress, whose red hair and bold red lipstick clashing brilliantly with the peach hue. Side-swept curls and dazzling diamond earrings completed the look.
